Knights on the Pathway of Innovation
Welcome to the 2020-2021 School Year!
Dear Nicolas Community,
On behalf of myself and Assistant Principal, Rachel McCormick, I want to welcome you to a new school year. Our Nicolas staff is so excited to meet your student and have worked tirelessly over the summer to create a positive and memorable environment for your students' return to school. Though we will miss being able to see your student on campus, we are highly anticipating the return to on-campus learning and are dedicated to making the transition as seamless as possible.
Beginning on August 11, Nicolas students will follow the FSD 360° Distance Learning Program that will incorporate the following:
- Daily live interaction with teachers and classmates with synchronous and asynchronous learning
- Rigorous content aligned with state standards
Daily attendance checks
Monitoring of participation and interaction with learning
- Academic Support and Enrichment through Wednesday Academic Interventions
Distance Learning accommodations and modifications made for students with special needs through Individualized Education Plans
- Integrated and designated ELD for English Learners
Social Emotional Learning lessons
- Support from our mental health staff and counselor
As we prepare for return to on-campus learning, our staff are making safety enhancements to meet Covid-19 guidelines. When it comes time for Nicolas students to transition back to on campus learning, different learning models will be offered for students. Those options will include: Five-Day at school learning, Hybrid learning and independent study/virtual instruction.
I invite you to please refer to the Nicolas Distance Learning Website
for all information about your child’s school day during Distance Learning. This new website is your one stop shop to find our bell schedule, tech support, parent support and access to teachers’ websites.
Our bell schedule has changed slightly at Nicolas this year to allow for targeted support in English Language Arts, History and Math. Students are expected to attend Homeroom every morning on Zoom at 8:40 am, followed by their academic and elective courses. Please note that Wednesdays are now dedicated to small targeted interventions and students will be invited directly through email by their ELA, Science or Math teachers.
Though this year is not what we imagined, I am so grateful to have you and your student as a member of the Nicolas family. At Nicolas, we are strong and resilient, and together we can overcome any challenges put in our way. I want to thank you for your flexibility and patience during this time. I look forward to what this year will bring.
Mrs. Robyn Clemente
