AVID Community Service Requirements
Community Service Requirements:
- 7th Grade : 5 hours/semester
- 8th Grade: 10 hours / semester
What is Community Service?
Community service can help junior high students develop character, empathy, and compassion. It can also help them learn about the needs of others, build leadership and teamwork skills, and develop a sense of responsibility and accountability.
What are some ways to serve the community?
- Volunteer with organizations and at events, or initiate projects that help others in need
- Volunteer with after-school activities
Nicolas Opportunities
- Help a teacher after school. Make an appointment with a teacher so that teachers can have work ready for you.
- Help sell drinks/chips during after-school events. Sign up with an AVID teacher.
- Nicolas Clean-Up Days (after-school 2nd/4th Fridays of the month)
- Saturday School
- Participate in the Pumpkin Run
- After School - Peer Tutoring
FSD Opportunities
- Volunteer at the Community Hub at Valencia Park (contact Mr. Fonsecca)
- Volunteer for FSD Events (Champions for Learning, Elementary Carnivals & FSD Fest)
- Sign up for Community Center Events
- Love Fullerton
- Visit your local elementary schools and ask the office/teachers for volunteer opportunities. Set up a day/time with the teacher.
